Pittsburgh Pirates Playoffs Appearance

Yes, you read the title of this blog post correctly....."Pittsburgh Pirates Playoffs Appearance". After a 20 year absence from the playoffs, the Pittsburgh Pirates are back in the playoffs. They play the division rival Cincinnati Reds in a one game Wild Card game on Tuesday 10/1 at 8:07 PM ET on TBS.

The pirates came into the season having missed the playoffs for 20 consecutive years which is a North American record for missed playoff appearances by a professional franchise. The pirates got to the point they are now when they hired General Manager Neal Huntington away from the Cleveland Indians. That moment on, we have slowly been working our way to our winning ways by trading away veterans and capitalizing on our acquisitions. After the 2010 major league baseball season, the pirates signed Clint Hurdle to be the teams new manager. In every year since he has been here we have improved our when total. He has not only changed the culture around the Pirates organization with his positive attitude in turning this into a winning organization again.

My prediction for the Wild Card game is the Pirates win 4-3 in the battle of the bullpens.

LETS GO BUCS!

  4. It was exciting watching the Pirates in the first game. They really proved that they should be there. The Pirates fans contributed as well. The pirates fans were screaming the Reds pitchers last names and getting under their skin, which led to some homeruns. That first game was amazing and I cant wait for tonights game!

  5. We discussed the game on tuesday and said they would have to jump out to a hot start and wouldn't ya know they did. The crowd was definately a difference maker. If they split at stl I think they have a good chance taking this series against the redbirds. Craig being out is going to make a big difference in that lineup. #Bucn

  6. Even though I am a Nats fan, I did enjoy watching the Pirates win on Tuesday. After watching the game, I can tell that they are going to make a big run in the playoffs this year and who knows maybe they will make the National League Championship.

  8. The first Pirates playoff game I have ever witnessed and I will remember it for the rest of my life. The crowd played a crucial part in the game by getting into the other pitchers head. I am looking forward to see how they play the rest of the postseason.
